Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides people with the opportunity and support to live semi-independently within the community. Living arrangements are sought together based on the person’s wants and needs. Options could be room and board, room only, an apartment either shared or on their own, or owning their own home. Support workers provide intermittent support in all aspects of a person’s life, in conjunction with family and other community supports. In order for a person to be as independant as possible, support includes but is not limited to; medical, financial, advocacy, community skills, nutrition, etc…
Our goal is to enable individuals with an intellectual disability to live as independently as possible, respecting the individual’s interests and wishes. To do this, we work with other agencies, services and our community.
We want to:
- Foster and promote environments in which individuals can have the human and civil rights that are for everyone.
- Foster and promote safe and respectful environments for people to learn, live and share in the benefits of our community.
- Connect people to natural supports in all aspects of the community. CLTIC is only one small part of the whole community.
- Use person-centred planning to ensure the decisions and supports make sense to the individual person.
- Support each person to make informed choices that take into account what is important to each person, the reality, and consequences of each choice and decision.
- Regularly evaluate all the services to ensure they are meeting the needs of people we support as best as possible.
