Kevin

Kevin

KevinKevin began his journey within the Foundations Project one year prior to his high school graduation. Kevin brought along several goals he desired to achieve; long term employment, continuous education, volunteering within our community, helping others and a plan to eventually live independently.

In June 2007, Kevin graduated from TH&VS and decided he wanted to continue his education. Kevin is now a Student at Northern College; he is enrolled in the 1 year College Vocational Certificate Program and will be graduating in May 2008. Along with Kevin’s ability to successfully complete the Vocational Program, Kevin was presented with a “Work Ethic Award” from his teacher, Celeste Andrews. This award represents Kevin’s powerful drive and determination to sustain employment while attending college.

Kevin’s work ethic only continues to improve. In the course of many employment experiences including a celebration of his one year anniversary at Siva’s Family Restaurant, Kevin discovered what and where he could be most valued using best of his abilities. Kevin now has found his place of employment where he feels valued and respected. This place is A&W restaurant. Kevin has worked at A&W since January of 2008 and continues to take pleasure in his job. Jo-Anne, Kevin’s immediate supervisor had only wonderful comments to make regarding Kevin’s performance. “Kevin is always in a good mood, he is a very hard worker and he always tries his best and works hard at getting everything right”.

Over the summer, Kevin also enjoyed attending many activities with other youth and young adults in Foundations such as volunteering for Rib Fest, Canadian Hearing Society, attending Camp Munro, group bowling and he continues to be an active volunteer for People First.

Kevin now continues to volunteer within our community independently. Recently, Kevin represented Community Living Timmins during the Timmins Volunteer Centre Walk-a-Thon. Kevin also is a volunteer for the Lord’s Kitchen where he continues to make a difference in other people’s lives.

In the mist of all of this, Kevin prepared for Independent Living. Kevin received the opportunity of working with a support worker to enhance his Independent Living skills. Kevin has successfully moved into his own apartment.

Kevin has been and continues to be an inspiration to us all. His determination to succeed along with his very big and generous heart will continue to inspire us all to become the best we can be.
