Cindy – Hi Everyone!

My name is Cindy. I am 21 years old and I would like to share my story with you in hopes of inspiring people with disabilities to reach and achieve their goals.

I graduated from O’Gorman High in June of 2006. I had many goals that I wanted to achieve, but the goal that was most important to me was to find a job.

I began planning for employment one year prior to leaving high school. This was a difficult time for me because I had a lot of things to think about and decisions to make about my adult life.

People that helped me were Amanda Wessman and Tammy Beaudoin from the Foundations Project. When we began planning I made a list of where I wanted to work. A Walmart greeter was my number one choice. We designed my resume and then gave it to Walmart.

Walmart decided to hire me as a co-op student. I really enjoyed my position and I learned a lot. On my last day of school I went to Walmart to complete my co-op and my boss approached me, commented on what a great job I was doing and she decided to hire me! I felt as though I achieved my goals.

I am still working at Walmart now and I have been there for over a year and a half now.

My next goal is to have my own apartment. I have completed many steps to achieving this goal along with purchasing items that I will need. I am now just waiting for that special apartment.

Recently, I decided to donate my hair to someone with cancer. My mother’s aunt died of cancer and I hope this donation will help someone that lost their hair. I hope it will give them confidence and put a smile on their face.

That’s my story for now, I hope it inspires you to reach and achieve your goals.

Sincerely,

Cindy
