“We love having Shane here with us, he is always smiling and is wonderful with the customers.” Stated by the Manager of the Electronic department at Wal-Mart and immediate supervisor of Shane.
Shane is a 24-year-old young man with great ambitions to have a successful and meaningful future. Shane embarked on the challenge of transition from high school to adult life when he achieved his high school certificate in June of 2002. A plan was developed and Shane began implementing the steps to achieve his goals. Step by step Shane was able to find valuable volunteer placements and employment including Wal-Mart and Jumbo video. In his leisure time, Shane enjoys ski doing, wrestling, movies, and socializing.
The Foundations Program is a transitional youth initiative and is funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. This project is designed to provide youth and young adults a smooth and successful transition from high school to adult life.
Transition planning requires an outcome-oriented approach that looks at future vocational placements, career and volunteer placements, funding sources, and community resources. It is an ongoing process that allows individuals an opportunity to collaborate with community businesses and agencies to make meaningful choices for their future.
