About 3 months ago the Public Education Committee sat as a whole trying to figure out what we can do to create something unique for the people who attend our programs and open our doors for their friends and family and create a event that is accessible to all.
Many ideas were thrown around, including curling, a yard sale, and a fundraiser event. The general consensus though was that these were already being done by other organizations and we wanted something unique. From this thought Wii Celebrate was born.
What started off as an inside activity day, grew and became a fun day for all that attended the event on May 12th.
For the event we had 7 Wii consoles and a Xbox Kinect system set up in the building where Mario Kart, Wii Bowling, and a dance competition took place. Outside the building we had Alpaca’s from Matheson (mini lama type animals) a fish pond, hula-hoops, bean bag tossing, cotton candy, popcorn, face painting and of course a BBQ.
When the event was completed we met as a committee to discuss how the event went. The outside volunteers said that they had a lot of people attend that were supported, a lot of their friends and family and as a pleasant surprise a lot of people attending that were from the general public. We tallied up our findings and were proud to announce as an estimate, approximately 200 to 250 people attended the event.
We would like to thank those that made the event possible:
